ABOUT US
Medford Youth Girls Softball (MYGS) was established in 1994 and has become the fastest growing softball league in the area. MYGS is a non-profit all-volunteer program that provides girls with a safe environment where they learn teamwork, sportsmanship, and leadership through softball. MYGS has a proud tradition of developing girls’ softball skills while it encourages and supports girls to participate in team activities that help them to become better leaders for tomorrow. Many MYGS alumni have gone on to play softball in High School and College. The MYGS spring season begins April 1st and runs through the middle of June. There are 22 teams with more than 240 players that range in age from 5 to 15. The Medford MiddleEssex Summer travel season begins the 3rd week in June and runs through the middle of August. Last year there were nine teams with more than 120 players that range in age from 9 to 18. MYGS also had one U12 team that
played in a Fall League in Billerica. The business names of our sponsors were seen by more than 300 Medford families and by many other city softball teams that came to play our Medford Middlesex Summer teams. Despite today’s economic challenge, it is vitally important to continue to develop Medford’s youth girls by encouraging and supporting team activities like MYGS to help girls to become tomorrow's leaders. Thanks to our sponsors, MYGS has been able to keep registration costs low, update equipment, expand and add teams to the league, and allow us to continue to offer $500 college scholarships to two High School Senior MYGS alumni. Last year we expanded MYGS to include: All Star Day, interleague games against Somerville Youth Softball teams for our U15 Division and Medford MiddleEssex Summer Softball League. This year we have 3 goals that we would like to start working towards:
Second Goal is to explore expanding MYGS to offer Tournament Softball Teams. We are starting a pilot U12 Team this year. We would also like to get more girls involved in the Fall Softball Season with scrimmages and games.
Our third Goal is a long term goal to renovate and restore Medford Softball Fields to provide the community and its athletic teams with safe, adequate and accessible facilities. The eight softball fields that MYGS uses are in great need of updating. We need to fix the infield and turf to make them level, make sure the backstop fencing is safe, add spectator bleachers, purchase a scoreboard and If we are able to update and improve the Medford fields, we can provide the girls with safer softball fields to play on as well as give Medford an opportunity to host weekend softball tournaments. These softball tournaments will allow Medford teams to play at the next level and will also bring other teams to Medford to play. This would also benefit Medford businesses. MYGS hopes your business will consider being a sponsor for the 2015 season, or, donating an item - or materials/services that will help improve our fields - for a fundraiser raffle. MYGS is a registered tax exempt, non-profit corporation according to Section 501 (c) (3) of the Internal Revenue Code.
